Flocking Testers

Achieving the best striped fur effect:

1.Flocking completely in white a and air brush on stripes
2.Flock over painted surface using translucent fur over, allowing stripes to show through
3.Flock black and white separately: will be extremely difficult.

Here I have experimented using the technique flocking. From this experiment I found out that the black stripes are still quite visible under a white flock, and to exaggerate them I could air brush over.

Starting off

Started off by making a Marquette to get an idea of zebra head, and to possibly have a practice at fibre glassing.

Extended Major Project Brief

For my final major project I intend to split the 14 weeks between two projects. To allow me to demonstrate a wider context of work, I have chosen two contrasting models. The first project will be to make an architectural model; this is categorized under the specialist area of architecture model making. The second project will be to make a character head of an animal working with a client from the costume department, who will make the costume with the head as an attachment. This will fall in to the specialist area of prosthetics.

Tasks(s) Outline:

The architectural model will allow me to demonstrate my hard edge model making skills, while becoming more aware of the architectural model making process and methods of construction. This will improve my basic plan reading, and develop computer packing operational skills. I am contacting several companies to provide me with digital plans. The favoured model would be the New Opera House based in Oslo. Designed by company Snohetta. This is an integrated, landscape and interior architectural practice. However I will have back up plans for other models in case I do not receive the files in time.

The character head will allow me to learn and experience new technical processes and present the opportunity to display my ability in the areas of sculpture, moulding and casting, finish effects and research. I wish to carry out this project as it will allow present a wide range of skills at the final show; this will demonstrate my transferable skills and flexibility within the model making industry. The favored animal head to this current date is the male character. This presents the opportunity to focus on achieving the soft almost slightly opaque texture and coloring on the nose to get the final desired effect. This project will require intense research in the areas of contextual, historical, theater, technical and media research. How will I achieve it… hopefully research will reveal. Will allow me to portray soft edge model making skills,

Both of these projects will demand excellent projects management, organisational skills, a wide knowledge of technical process and high quality communication skills.
